Reverend Edward Beecher and his congregation sent her to Cairo with donations for the war effort (Civil War). She worked at Fort Defiance Hospital in Caior. Then she joined Grant's Army and continued her nursing work. A hospital ship during WWII was names after her. All good+ condition.

Baker, with a full page colored map. Baker, Burton and Speke had by this time finally proved that the source of the White Nile lay in the Lakes Albert and N'yanza. Baker traces his discovery of the sources of the lower nile in the Atbara River and the Blue Nile in Abyssina. Also has highly exiting adventures of the author among animals of Africa and along the Nile, accompanied by expert native sword hunters. Slight foxing, slight wear to co vers, overall very good.
