London, England Faber & Faber First Edition Hard Cover Signed by Author
John and James Clark Ross and their explorations. Dust jacket and book very good condition. SIGNED by Ernest S. Dodge with inscription "To Jane and Walter with affectionate regards". First published in 1973, CR 1973, 260 pages with index and black and white photos, 3 maps and 8 plates. Both Rosses are eminent in the exploration of the Arctic and the Antarctic. James, and his Uncle John, tried to find a North-West passage; made four Arctic expeditions under Parry and on his uncles' second Arctic expedition determined the position of the North Magnetic Pole. He conducted the first systematic survey of the British Isles and later commanded an Antarctic expedition. No biography of either Ross has been prior to this one.

With an account of his life and achievements. CR 1930, first published June 1930. Frontis black and white photo of Byrd, 256 pages, black and white photos. Red covers with black lettering. There is pencil underlining up to page 78, this can be erased. Overall condition is near very good.
