1 Kauffman, Jean-Paul. The Arch Of Kerguelen.
New York Four Walls Eight Windows First Printing Hard Cover
Voyage to the Islands of Desolation. Dust jacket and book very good condition. Translation from French by Patricia Clancy. CR 1993, first printing Oct. 2000, first published France 1993, English Translation CR 2000. 206 pages with bibliography, and end notes. 110 illustrations, one double page map of The Kerguelen Islands. Isolated French Islands in the Southern Indian Ocean were the site for the Arch of Kerguelen, a stone vault that stunned navigators for years. It appears as an entry to a crypt - it leads to the forlorn world that is the Kerguelens. First discovered in 1772, they were deemed too depressing to bother going ashore. Not accessible by air, traveling for one week by ship is the only way.
