A Spanish horseman, Don Vito Cantu is charged with the care and training of a young man, and together they travel to Cantu's livestock hacienda. The Ibarra horses with their Cross-Enflanked marking and the the story of the seven original horses of the Ibarra stud is told to the entranced youth. A strange Spanish gentleman appears with his indian companion with a tale of the Cross-Enflanked horses in the hands of savages. This spurs Cantu to launch a six-man expedition into the wilderness of the Great North Rim to retrieve the horses.
