Dust jacket has tears, otherwise all very condition. Illustrated pastdowns of Wilderness Road in Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Author died in May 1960, this was printed in 1973 by his widow. Originally published in 1947 by Bobbs Merrill. 392 pages with index. The Wilderness Trail helped the westward spread of English colonization through Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The first route opened across the Appalachian barrier From 1775 to 1800 it was the principal overland entry into the limitless West.
