Volume 2 - Frontis of Josephine, 318 pages. Volum,e 3 frontis, 307 pages, and Volume 4 - Napoleon frontis, 326 pages with index to all four volumes. Bookplate on all four volumes front pastedown, belonging to William Henry Sloane. Constant became the valet to Napoleon and spent 14 consecutive years with him. He came to know the true Emperor, who loved children, and included them in his daily life, a kind and patient man who was rarely unjust in his treatment of others.

These reminiscenses are two fold - a narrative of the mixed rewards and anxieties experienced by a sensitive Eastern lady of the Victorian Era, a wife and mother, novelist, and an artist and the second of a very intense personal experience and the defense of the role played in the west by the group of engineers which included her husband.
