From the minutes of the Castine, Maine Woman's Club. Dust jacket and book are very good condition. Illustrated by Louise Taber Bourne. CR 1986, 148 pages with index and notes. Minutes from the Women's Club meetings from the eve of World War I to the eve of World War II, plus letters, poetry, town reports and newspaper articles and wonderful observations by Old-time Castiners. Using their meeting as a forum on issues of the day and unifying their voice, the ladies were able to influence town affairs and national politics. After receiving the vote they effected social change, in early twenties they helped bring about federal child labor laws; later urged the U.S. to enter the World Court, advanced prison reform, and many other causes.
